Take a Walk on the Ice Side - IMG01
The most popular tour in the book! On this Iceland day tour you will be guided through the labyrinth of a glacier tongue extending down from the fourth biggest glacier in Iceland.
The Sólheimajökull Glacier Walk has become a volcano experience in itself. Since this glacier tongue lies just east of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano, the effects of the eruption are obvious on its surface. What once was white is now different shades of black, decorated with lighter (silver) lines where the water has washed away the ash. If the conditions are right the ash plume is also clearly visible from the glacier. This is a safe and easy walk on crampons up to the ice field where a wonderland of ice sculptures, ridges and deep crevasses awaits your discovery. Our experienced mountain guides will teach you how to use basic glacier equipment necessary for this tour. On the way back there is a stop at the picturesque waterfalls, Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss, that flow from the Eyjafjallajökull Glacier. A glacier walk on Sólheimajökull is a great way to experience Icelandic nature in all its diversity.
