Four-Day Cross Country Skiing tour

After a short flight from Reykjavík, we land in the arctic wonderland that every cross country skier dreams of; endless snow, mountains and frozen fiords. The landscapes are magnificent and the Inuit culture intriguing. This area of Greenland was only discovered by the White Man at the end of the 19th Century and vestiges of the traditional way of life are still much honored. Many of the Inuits still live the lives of hunters taking pride in a feisty dog team. We settle down in the Inuit village of Kulusuk from where we set out for our skiing excursions. The village is located on a little island and offers various possibilities for skiing, both on the frozen ice of the surrounding fjords over to the nearby islands. This offers great insight into the arctic wonderland as well as the Inuit culture. This is a perfect skiing trip, for those who are looking for a short and memorable skiing vacation. Accommodation in a private guesthouse.

Equipment list

Included : Guide for 4 days, food for 4 days (from lunch day 1 to lunch day 4), flight from Reykjavík – Kulusuk - Reykjavik, three nights in a guesthouse and cooking gear.
Supplement: 4 to 5 participants is 20.000ISK per person.
Excluded : Personal equipment, insurance, drinks and beverages.
Meeting Point : Reykjavik domestic airport.

Day 1: Reykjavík–Kulusuk
We meet at the domestic airport in Reykjavik for our morning flight to Kulusuk; we will arrive in Kulusuk around noon. As soon as we get out of the terminal we put on our skis and ski to the Hotel Kulusuk where we will be accommodated for the next 3 days. As soon as check in at our guesthouse is finished the afternoon´s exploration starts. The northwestern part of Kulusuk Island is today´s skiing ground, the Inuit village Cap Dan and its surroundings.
Skiing: ~ 3 hrs.

Day 2: Apusiaajik Island
Today´s skiing takes us over the pack ice to the island of Apusiaajik. On the way we can enjoy the magnificent icebergs trapped in the pack ice. Once on the island we ski up on to an easy glacier reaching a height of 300 meters and continue northwards along a landscape dotted with 900 m. granite peaks. The view to the mainland as well as the smaller surrounding islands is certainly stunning. Skiing back we follow the narrow Torsukattak fiord. This is definitely a unique skiing area and a memorable day.
Skiing: ~7 – 8 hrs.

Day 3: Cap Dan headland
Today´s skiing takes us across the island of Kulusuk, south to the headland of Cap Dan. On this lonely outpost the US operated a radar station until the early eighties. The views are magnificent. The endless pack ice stretches out in front of us, dotted with icebergs, islands and a multitude of granite peaks sticking out of the snowscape like sentinels.
Skiing: ~6hrs.

Day 4: Kulusuk – Reykjavík:
We get up early in order to make the most of the day and set out to explore the north Coast of Kulusuk Island. We enjoy the majestic views to the vast icebergs in the pack ice as well as the stillness of the snowy landscapes before heading back to the guesthouse and the airport.
Skiing: ~3hrs.
