The Golden Circle Classic excursion introduces you to Iceland's best-known natural phenomena plus a sample of Iceland's green energy technology.

On this Excursion, we take the Nesjavellir geothermal power plant tour.  The Nesjavellir geothermal plant is one of the most environmentally friendly power plants in the world, situated in the high-temperature geothermal area near the Lake Þingvallavatn.  The tour is a sophisticated multi media presentation on the geology of the geothermally active earth and the process of converting geothermal energy into electrical power.  

Next, our excursion takes us to Þingvellir, the location where Icelands parliament, Alþingi, was founded in 930.  The Alþingi is the oldest known functioning parliament in the world.  From a geologic perspective, the area is unique because it is a rift valley where the tectonic plates of North America and Europe meet.  The two continental plates are constantly shifting; in fact, it is the shifting of the plates and the geology of underground motion that makes the area so geologically active, with hot springs, relatively accessible geothermal energy and volcanoes.  It is the reason that Iceland exists!

Our Golden Circle excursion continues to the spectacular waterfall Gullfoss and then to the geyser area where we experience the incredible spouting hot springs of Geysir and Strokkur. We visit the Skálholt church, the ancient seat of Icelandic bishops.

During the last portion of the Golden circle excursion, we see the fertile agricultural areas to Hveragerði, a small and charming horticultural village.
