The Blue Lagoon Direct & Gullfoss and Geysir Express - AH24
Bathe in the famous Blue Lagoon and see the highlights of the Golden Circle!
This is a combination of the Gulfoss and Geysir express and the Blue Lagoon Direct tours. Perfect for those who like to move at a faster pace and see as much of what Iceland has to offer as possible. We pick you up at 8:30 from your hotel and go directly to the Blue Lagoon. This is a fantastic way to begin the day, soaking in the rejuvenating saline and mineral waters of the famous Blue Lagoon, and taking the direct tour still gives you plenty of time to relax without taking your entire day. If you choose, you can have lunch and/or drinks at the Blue Lagoon cafe.
At 12:00, we return to Reykjavik to catch the Golden Circle Express tour. The Golden Circle Express tour takes you to the classic trio of Iceland's natural attractions - The waterfall Gullfoss (Golden Waterfall), the natural hot springs in Grindavik, including the largest geysir, Strokkur, and Ţingvellir (Thingvellir), the site of the first Parliamentary government in 930.
The first part of the Golden Circle tour is Thingvellir, the location where the American and Eurasian tectonic places meed and are slowly pulling apart (about 2 meters per 100 years) creating a unique valley of clear lava-filtered water and lush green landscape. Thingvellir is where the ancient parliament was formed and met every June. Thingvellir is now a national shrine for Iceland and listed on the UNESCO world heritage list in 2004.
The Gulfoss waterfall is in the canyon of Hvítá river and falls in two places, first 11 meters and then 21 meters into a deep crevide 20m wide. Once considered as a source of energy for hydroelectric power, the waterfall Gulfoss is now a protected falls and part of the Golden Circle.
The Strokkur geysir (geyser) is near the Hvítá river and part of a geothermally active area where there are many mud pools, and other smaller geysers. The geysir's flow was blocked by an earthquake in 1896 and did not erupt until 1963, when locals cleared the obstruction and allowed the geysir to erupt again. It has erupted regularly about every 4-8 minutes since them, up to a height of about 16 meters.
Just before returning, we visit the South Icelandic town of Hveragerđi with its large greenhouses (warmed by geothermally heated water) before travelling over a mountain heath back to the capital.
The Blue Lagoon Direct and Gulfoss and Geysir express tours are a great way to experience the natural relaxation of the Blue Lagoon and see some of Iceland's finest natural phenomena, all in a single day!
